The world uses a variety of different energy sources. In 2018 fossil fuels, such as oil, gas and coal, accounted for over 81 percent of the energy consumed. Renewables such as wind power, solar energy biomass, hydroelectricity, and biomass are responsible for 14 percent. Nuclear energy accounts for another 5 percent. Different countries have different sources of energy to meet environmental and economic requirements.

Still, it’s important to keep in mind that costs for renewable energy equipment have come down significantly over the last few years, and efficiency is increasing rapidly.
